FREE SOIL — Circle Rocking S Children’s Farm is hosting its 30th Blessing of the Animals event this weekend with a silent auction, games and a car show.
Everyone is welcome to bring their pets — dogs, cats, livestock and more — for the free outdoor church service. The Rev. Ron Iris, the Rev. John Hansen and John Brown will be presiding over the service and offer a blessing for pets and their owners.
The event starts at 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 21 at the farm, located at 5487 Tuttle Road in Free Soil.
The service will be held rain or shine inside the barns and tents, according to a flyer for the event.
Prizes will be given out for the attendee who brings the most animals, tallest, smallest and most unique. All pets should be on a short leash or lead or in a carrier.
Attendees do not have to bring a pet to take part in the events.
Residents who have a pet who died can bring a flower or photo to the service to place by the St. Francis statue.
Following the service, attendees can visit with the Michigan 2nd Cavalry Civil War re-enactors and local fire department staff members.
Helen Herzberg and Chantelle Strong will provide live music. Games and costume contests will be held, as well as a silent auction.
Entries to the car show must be in place by 1 p.m.; judging will take place following the service. There is a $10 entry fee per vehicle. Trophies and prizes will be awarded in a variety of categories.
All proceeds benefit programs at the Circle Rocking S Farm, a nonprofit that “is dedicated to providing animal touch therapy, music therapy and recreation free of charge to children of all ages with disabilities.”
